"I've engaged with Sam Fender's work ever since he was only just gearing up for his debut record, 'Hypersonic Missiles', but it was his latest, 'People Watching', that really touched me the deepest. Fender, with his Heartland rock revival, has been one to dwell on anguish towards political systems & socio-economic inequalities, as well as the pains he felt growing up in his "one-horse town", but this record saw him in a light that he never shown in before. 'People Watching' captures Fender opening a window of empathy towards the world around him and take some time reflecting on his inner vices & beauty. Not only that, but he adopts responsibility for not "taking this life for granted", as he sings. I feel like this album arrived in my life right when nihilism and hopelessness for this life & the world was starting to feel easier to accept for everyone; it's my reminder that there's more to life than what troubles this world. <3"
